cine luminograms

Since 2000, I have been working with Super 8 movie films. Initially in film, later exclusively in photography in the form of stills and image sequences.
Due to the extremely small image format of 8mm film and the resulting high magnification during projection, damage appears disproportionately large. The magnified image transforms dust and scratches into intrinsic elements of this visual world; they are characteristic of it. Settled dust is the epitome of a bygone era; scratches are wounds, marks of time.
With the cine luminograms, I examine precisely these imperfections and transform them into visual elements. Projected onto photographic paper as a screen, they are captured and fixed, rendered still.
